If you want to do web surfing anonymously or want to keep yourself safe from cyber attacks, there are many solutions available. If you are very concerned about online privacy, Tor browser will offer you higher degree of privacy online.

While surfing on the internet many times you may have heard about VPN and Proxies. VPN and Proxies enable you to surf anonymously on internet by hiding your IP in various ways. They provide privacy and security to user. TOR or TOR Browser is quite similar VPN or Proxies as it provides privacy and security. TOR works as similar as VPN and Proxies, only the difference is TOR is very slow as compared to them.

So let’s know about TOR.

What TOR or TOR Browser?

TOR stands for The Onion Router, that’s why it has Onion symbol. It is a web browser which is designed for Anonymous browsing and protection against traffic analysis. Actually, TOR was developed by and for U.S Navy to protect sensitive U.S govt communication. The Onion Routing was developed by Paul Syverson, Michael G. Reed and David Goldschlag at U.S Naval Research Laboratory in the 1990.  TOR continues to be used by government and now it is open source. This browser uses exit relays and encrypted tunnels to hide user traffic within the network.

TOR browser is more secure than any other browser. It is not impervious to attacks., malwares such as Chewbacca trojan has successfully targeted the TOR network and browser. It makes easy to protect your identity online.

Tor browser protects you by bouncing your communications around a distributed networks of relays. It keeps bouncing IP addresses. It prevents somebody watching your internet connection from learning what websites you are visiting, it helps to hide your physical locations and also you can access blocked websites by using TOR.

How Tor Browser Works

Tor Browser routes your web traffic through the Tor network. It is consist of Three-Layer Proxy, just like layers of Onion, hence Tor has Onion logo. Tor connects at random to one of the publicly listed entry nodes, bounces that traffic through a randomly selected middle relay and finally spits out your traffic through the third and final exit code.

how Tor browser work?

Tor works on the concept of “Onion Routing” method in which users data is encrypted and then it transferred through different relays present in the Tor network, thus it create multi-layered encryption like Onion and keep user identity safe. Tor network runs through the computer servers of thousands of volunteers throughout the entire world. Your data get bundled into encrypted packet when it enters Tor network. Tor neglects the packet’s header, this header part contains addressing information that could be used to learn things about the sender such as physical address, operating system from which message was sent etc.

Tor encrypts the rest of addressing information, which is called Packet Wrapper. Then the modified and encrypted data packet is then routed through many of these servers, called relays. The layers of encrypted address information used to anonymize data packets send through Tor. Encryption layer is decrypted at each successive Tor relay and remaining data is forwarded to any random relay until it reaches its final destination server. Hence, it is tough to trace of identity of user who is using Tor Browser, no any surveillance system acting in mid-way can trace you.

Who Uses Tor?

People in the world use Tor to search and buy products and to get access of other restricted websites, such as what exists in some foreign countries. Most of people use Tor to surf on Internet anonymously. Those who wants to hide their identity on the internet, uses Tor. Tor browser is much slower than any other browser though people use it for anonymity. Tor provide peace of mind for those who are seeking for higher level of internet privacy and security. It create heaven for those who want to do online business out of laws.

Is Tor Browser Legal?

Tor browser is completely legal to use, but using Tor for illegal activities on Internet is not legal. In some countries Tor is legal, while in some countries it is illegal or blocked by national authorities. This doesn’t mean you should use Tor, if you really care about your privacy online you can use it, but don’t use it for illegal activity on internet or to access dark web otherwise you may get traced.
